Folks

Other humanoid kins inhabit the world besides humans. They form their own communities and are a rare sight within the Kingdom, but not impossible to encounter especially for seasoned travellers.

The profiles show the average ability scores, which can vary just like for human characters. The minimum score is the given one minus 3 (minimum 1), and the maximum score is the given one plus 7 (maximum 19). No skills or assets are shown, as those depend on the character’s occupation.

Human
The average inhabitant of the Kingdom.

Medium-sized creature, human intelligence.

Elf
Dexterous and wise, they look like tall, beautiful, flawless humans. They are known for their pride and arrogance, which in turn makes them subject of dislike from the other kins.

Dwarf
Short and stocky, clumsy but strong. They live reclusively in underground cities and are known for their craftsmanship.

Halfling
Small and frail, but extremely nimble. Halfling communities are small and live simply, trying to keep distance from the chaotic outside world.

Ogre
Giant mountains of muscle. Not the brightest nor the most agile, but their brawn serves them well in many occasions.

Reanimated corpses

Dead bodies dragged back to life by vile sorcery. A reanimated corpse obeys the sorcerer who created it, without question. It can carry out simple and repetitive tasks, such as guarding an area, patrolling, transporting goods, etc.

You can build the profile of a reanimated corpse starting from any creature using these rules:

  • STR matches the original creature, AGI is halved, and WIT equals 2.

  • Character category changes to undead.

  • Intelligence category changes to mindless. Humanoid reanimated corpses can still hold and use items.

  • Size category matches the original creature.

  • Skills are lost.

  • Traits match the original creature, plus the addition of frightening (or terrifying if already frightening).

Bone raven
A dead raven, empty-eyed, bones carrying rotting flesh.
STR 4, AGI 6, WIT 2
Small undead, mindless.
Fast. Moves at double speed.
Swooping flyer. Can fly. Can attack but can’t stay still while flying.
Frightening. Causes fear within range 4. Is immune to frightening characters and treat terrifying characters as frightening.
Beak & talons. D6 damage.

Shambling corpse
A corpse reanimated by dark magic, left to rot.
STR 8, AGI 4, WIT 2
Medium-sized undead, mindless.

Skeletal warrior
An ancient body awakened to serve as an immortal warrior.
STR 8, AGI 4, WIT 2

Assets: shield (bulk 2; shield, d4 damage), martial hand weapon (d6 damage).

Demons

Demons are the product of pure chaos, denizens of an alternate dimension. Each one is different and unique in its own way, and can never truly be destroyed. This section provides a few examples, but feel free to make up your own!

Agruwalsongor the Bloodletter
A large horned man brandishing a giant sword, his skin constantly exuding fresh blood. Collects the skulls of slain mortals.
STR 16, AGI 4, WIT 8
Medium-sized demon, human intelligence.
Skilled strike. You improve the damage die of melee attacks (but not unarmed attacks): d4 to d6, d6 to d8, d8 to d10, d10 to d12. You can’t improve a d12. In case of blast attacks only one target takes increased damage.
Brawling. Your unarmed attacks are not impaired and inflict d6 damage. Your armour value is increased by 1 against unarmed attacks.
Frightening. Causes fear within range 4. Is immune to frightening characters and treat terrifying characters as frightening.
Assets: demonic greatsword (bulk 2; d8 damage).
Frenzy. Constantly frenzied, wants to kill all creatures with no exception.

Vlashmandarka the Corruptor
Takes the form of the most attractive creature which the observer can possibly imagine. Wants to corrupt the pure.
STR 8, AGI 8, WIT 12
Medium-sized demon, human intelligence.
Charm. You can befriend and persuade people without a WIT save in challenging circumstances, and by passing a WIT save in almost impossible circumstances. If you spend a stretch chatting or observing someone, you are able to estimate if they are bribable, and what it might be necessary to convince them.
Barbed tongue-whip. D4 damage, grab.
Powers. Can invoke bewitch once per watch at level 4.

Pancratius Pinkflame the Horror
A mess of flesh and bones, shifting in shape and bright colours. Sees mortals as clay to be mould.
STR 8, AGI 12, WIT 8
Medium-sized demon, human intelligence.
Fast dodge. Once per round, you can dodge an attack without spending your turn, even if you have already acted. You can’t dodge the same attack twice, but you can dodge and counter the same attack, and you can dodge when your attack is countered. You can use this skill to dodge an opportunity attack or while guarding.
Frightening. Causes fear within range 4. Is immune to frightening characters and treat terrifying characters as frightening.
Claws. D6 damage.
Eldritch fire. D6 damage, range 8.
Corrupting touch. Anyone touched by it suffers 2 corruption. This includes targets of melee attacks, unless they are successfully dodge.
Split. When it suffers critical damage it splits into two copies of itself, each with health equal to the remaining amount and STR to match.

Kreftelgor the Plague Brewer
A skull-faced man with horribly bloated skin, covered in pustules and boils. Creates new diseases and experiments on humans.
STR 8, AGI 4, WIT 8
Medium-sized demon, human intelligence.
Apothecary. You can craft medicinal substances, such as antidote, cure-all, darkroot, healing draught, madcap mushroom, medicine box, and all kinds of poison. This requires suitable ingredients and apothecary tools. Creating a single dose takes only a stretch of time, but ingredients are rare. It takes a watch to gather them in the wilderness (if they are locally present), or to find them for sale in a settlement (they are worth ¼ the value of the end product).
Frightening. Causes fear within range 4. Is immune to frightening characters and treat terrifying characters as frightening.
Assets: clothes (filthy hooded cloak), rusty dagger (d4 damage).
Bloated flesh. Armour value 1.
Disease vials. Carries d4 vials holding various diseases. They can be thrown at range 2 or be used to coat weapons or taint items and surfaces.

Monsters

Mighty and ferocious creatures of legend. Few survive to tell the tale of an encounter with such forces of nature!

Troll
A large, brutish, humanoid monster, capable of quick regeneration. Lives in swamps and feasts on rotten meat.
STR 12, AGI 4, WIT 4
Large creature, human intelligence.
Frightening. Causes fear within range 4. Is immune to frightening characters and treat terrifying characters as frightening.
Regeneration. Recovers half the amount of lost health each round, at the start of their turn. Fire prevents this.
Assets: huge club (bulk 8; d6 damage; an extremely large club, impossible to use for a medium-sized character).
Thick skin. Armour value 1.

Wyrm
A gigantic lizard-like winged creature, capable of breathing fire.
STR 16, AGI 4, WIT 12
Large creature, animal intelligence.
Frightening. Causes fear within range 4. Is immune to frightening characters and treat terrifying characters as frightening.
Landing flyer. Can fly. Can’t attack and can’t stay still while flying.
Scales. Armour value 2.
Bite, talons, & tail. D8 damage.
Fire breath. D6 damage, range 2, blast, fire damage, usage limit: once per stretch.

Domesticated animals

Animals which have been bred and selected to work with humans. They are typically docile and obedient, even though individual animals which have received no training might still be aggressive or distrustful.
